Greyfriars Bar is delighted to be hosting a fundraising event of live music, to raise money and awareness for Tommy’s and The Miscarriage Association. The event has been organised and will also feature, local traditional Scottish Folk Singer, Andrew Gordon.
The event will take place on October 4th and coincides with Baby Loss Awareness Week which runs the following week, between the 9th – 15th October. Baby Loss Awareness Week is a collaboration between more than 60 charities across the UK, to raise awareness about the key issues affecting those who have experienced pregnancy loss or baby death in the UK.
Andrew Gordon said, “Over the last few years my partner Melanie Grant has been raising awareness of Baby Loss Awareness Week by asking various venues to light up their properties in pink and blue.
The week always runs from 9-15th October, and as I normally do a big fundraiser every 5 years, we decided that we would run a couple of concerts to coincide with the awareness week – one in Perth and one in Dunfermline.
Melanie and I have been unfortunate to go through 4 miscarriages. It has been a very difficult time, and both charities, Tommy’s and The Miscarriage Association, have been a great help over the years. To thank them for the help, we decided to organise a fundraiser.
Greyfriars have been kind enough to host the event and will also donate to the charities. We hope to raise around £1,500 between both concerts. There will also be a raffle and shaking tins at both events. We hope that the money raised can be put to good use by the charities to help other couples that could use some help.
I grew up in Perth, and performed my first concert in Perth in 1994, at the now-closed Kings Arms. The concerts in Greyfriars have always been great fun, and it will be a great place to do a wee fundraiser.”
We look forward to a fantastic evening of live music, and we hope we can help Andrew and Melanie reach their fundraising targets.
